First of all, I would like to extend my warm greetings to the readers and the editors of the ASME Journal of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Science (ASME J. NERS), as well as nuclear specialists all over the world, who are united in the community of international nuclear engineering, nuclear power, and radiation science.

Clean and low carbon has become the main theme of global energy development. Meanwhile, as a green, clean, and reliable energy, nuclear energy has been recognized worldwide as a solution to climate change and sustainable development. Experts and scientists in the global nuclear field are committed to improving the safety of nuclear-energy development, increasing the diversity of nuclear-energy applications, and reducing the cost of nuclear-electricity generation.
China has been actively promoting the development of nuclear energy. As of the end of December 2019, China has 47 nuclear-power units in operation, which ranks third in the world by a number of operating reactors; and 13 units under construction, which maintains the first place in the world in terms of adding new installed capacities. All nuclear power plants in China have continuously been in safe and stable operation.
As a national, academic and nonprofit social organization, Chinese Nuclear Society (CNS), since its establishment in 1980, has become an important social force for the development of China's nuclear science and technology. Chinese Nuclear Society is “the Family of Nuclear Science and Technology Professionals,” with more than 10,000 individual members, 188 unit members, 39 professional divisions, and 9 working committees. As an important academic institution for international nongovernmental exchanges and cooperation on nuclear science and technology, CNS has been committed to building up a high-level science and technology exhibition and academic exchanges platform. We aim to contribute to the development of China's nuclear industry by exploring innovative approaches to mobilize nuclear-engineering researchers, and to promote the development of nuclear science and technology as well as knowledge dissemination and international exchanges in this regard.
Chinese Nuclear Society has established long-term and stable cooperation with ASME and JSME. Thanks to the joint efforts of the three parties, International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE), one of the most influential academic-exchange platforms in its field, has become an academic event that the industry's top experts, scholars, and outstanding young researchers are keen to attend. ICONE arouses great passion among nuclear researchers and institutes both in and out of China, injects vitality into the subject fields, and promotes the scientific and technological progress in these areas. CNS hosted ICONE in 2005, 2010, 2013, 2017, and will host it again in 2022. We welcome all the nuclear experts from the world to China then.
Lastly, I wish you all the best and stay in good health!
