Orthotropic Cylindrical Shells Under Line Load

Abstract

Solutions for an orthotropic cylindrical shell which is subjected to a longitudinal line load along a generator are presented for Flügge and Donnell type orthotropic shell equations. Experimental data of 2 orthotropic shells is presented and compared with the theoretical predictions. The results from the Flügge-type equations agree well with the experimental data for all shells. The solutions based on Donnell-type equations agree well only in case of short shells.
