Abstract

Flexible foundation structures furnish examples for elastic-plastic systems enduring cyclic plastic deformations in alternating directions under normal working conditions. Such systems have not been considered yet by shakedown theories. The final stationary behavior which they approach is independent, under certain conditions, from the previous loading history, as is demonstrated by model tests with a laterally loaded pile.
