Extensional Waves Along the Edge of an Elastic Plate

Abstract

A solution of second-order equations of extensional motion of plates is obtained for waves traveling along a free edge. The usual Rayleigh-type wave is found to become more and more confined to the edge of the plate as the frequency increases. Above a certain frequency another edge wave is found.
